I have been looking at some great new free software (games) recently. These have been around for quite some time now but have really matured to really show off the worth of free software. So in an attempt to get more people playing and/or contributing here is what I have been looking at:
World of Padman
Alien Arena
UFO:Alien Invasion
Danger from the Deep
This is not an exhaustive list by all means but these are ones I have looked at recently that have grabbed my attention for more than 5 minutes.
World of Padman

World of Padman is a FPS based on a comic conceived in the late nineties for a German Playstation magazine. It features comic violence and bright colours and great environments. WoP has different game styles than the usual death match which makes it more interesting and challenging. For instance 'fragging' people won't earn you points. A popular game mode is 'Spray your colour' where you have to get a colour cartridge of the other team or opponents and take it to a special spray room and colour the relevant wall. All round good fun.

Alien Arena
Alien Arena is another FPS with 50's b-movie looking aliens, a bit like Tim Burton's Mars Attacks. This is quite good fun and like World of Padman has more game modes than the usual death match games you find in most FPS games which I am so bored of. In fact Alien Arena even has vehicles in one of its game modes All Out Assault.

UFO:Alien Invasion

UFO:AI is a great looking turn based game which is a tribute to the X-Com series of games. There is many hours of fun to be had from this. Included are two game styles and a few multiplayer options including head to head, aliens vs humans. I had a look over a year ago and it looked good then but wasn't so polished but now it could almost be considered a AAA title. IMO. Games publishers know nothing about games anyway!

Danger from the Deep
A World War 2 submarine simulator from the German perspective. Who would have thought I could get sucked into playing this for a few hours? Initially it was quite daunting but after I had learnt the keys and figured out after a while what I was doing it was really good fun. This has come a long way since I learnt about it a couple of years ago. This is quite hardcore and if you are looking for instant action then go for the games above. However if you are looking for something a bit different I totally recommend this. It isnt completely finished yet but there's enough in there to get a good game out of it.

Information about these can be found on my Free Software Links website. I have to advertise it somehow
